9Outlook for researchMy goalthat areto develop productscompatible with living organisms (humans),including medical materials (suture materials, cell cultivation sheets, and surgical dressings),health and nursing products (sheets and filtersfor cosmetics), sheets that transform sea waterinto fresh water, and even afforestation sheetsfor use in arid regions.Outlook for students after graduationGraduates work not only at material andmanufacturingincompaniesmaterials development, but also in many otherindustries, particularly textiles.Outlook for researchWe focus on new areas of opportunity whileexploring a variety of phenomena in ancreativelyevidence-based manner whilevisualizing our vision of the future. We alsoconduct network analysis as a tool to gain abird's eye view of the field of design.Outlook for students after graduationThe field of design is expanding beyondproduct design to include UX (User Experience)design, business design and more. Not onlymanufacturers but also many other industriesare trying to utilize the value of design intheir business management. Our goalis tonurture human resourcesthat can openup new solutions beyond those offered byprecedents in industry.ProfessorTANAKA ToshihisaProfessorNAGAO YukioDepartment of 先進繊維・感性工学科Advanced Textile andKansei EngineeringDepartment of 先進繊維・感性工学科Advanced Textile andKansei EngineeringProfessor Tanaka took his currentposition in 2020 after working as aresearcher for a project oftheJapan Scienceand TechnologyCorporation’s Core Research forEvolutional Science and Technologyand later as a doctoral researchfellow at RIKEN and as an associateprofessor at Shinshu University. At the Mitsubishi Electric IntegratedDesign Center, Nagao engaged in awide variety of design work fromproduct design to business design.Heprofessionalamaster's degree in management oftechnology and held a researchposition atInstitute ofTokyoTechnology. He was appointed toShinshu University in January 2022.Composite fiber material s are developed by creating high-tensile fibers from biodegradable polymers with numerous micropores and adding water-soluble polymers. An electron microscope is used to analyze the fine structure of a water-soluble polymer gel sheet designed to facilitate seed sprouting and growth to assist in afforestation of arid regions.Work to embody and empathize with new opportunity areas through visualizationI am working to develop materials that can be used safelywithout harming people or the environment by usingbiomass plastics made from renewable resources such assugars and plant oils as well as biodegradable plasticsthat are broken down in the environment through theaction of microorganisms. The future that will unfold from this point onwardscannot be imagined by continuing the past. Such a futurewill not be realized via technology but by working withstudents to generate and propose people-centered ideasin anticipation of a diverse human society. It is thecreativity of individuals who think in novel and uniqueways that will lead the way to novel innovation.earnedinvolvedIdeaDevelopmentNew AreasOpportunityFutureResearchDeveloping materials that can be used safely without harming people or the environmentGenerating Innovation from Future Societies
