Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationMedicine ⅢMuscle Disease ResearchChief: Sr Asst Prof. Akinori UruhaWe conduct research on pathomechanism and therapy development for muscle diseases, mainly inflammatory myopathies (myositis). Multidisciplinary techniques are applied, including muscle pathology, serology (autoantibodies, cytokines, PBMC), myoimaging (MRI, CT), genetics, and epidemiology. In our department, neurologists and rheumatologists make ONE team. As myositis is in an interdisciplinary area across neurology and rheumatology, this environment is advantageous for myositis research.Muscle pathology of myositisInternational congress• Inclusion body myositis• Sporadic late-onset nemaline myopathy• Improvement of diagnostic skills for muscle diseases• Less invasive muscle biopsy• Reduction of adverse effects of myositis therapy• Rehabilitation for myositisThere are yet refractory inflammatory myopathies without any established treatment, e.g. inclusion body myositis. We aim to elucidate the pathomechanism and develop therapy for such diseases. Our research will ultimately contribute to expansion of healthy life span. You will be able to play a significant role as a promising researcher for the myositis / myology field. 12Myositis Study - Pathomechanism and Treatment 2024-2025 医学科研 究 紹 介
