37500 nmAssociateProfessorKOYAMAToshikiAssociateProfessorKoyamatookhiscurrentpositionin1998afterservingintheFacultyofTextileScienceandTechnologyatShinshuUniversityasanassistantprofessorandseniorassistantprofessor.Hisphysicalareaofchemistrythedevelopmentoffunctionalpolymermaterialsanddevicesinspiredbythemovementofelectronsandionsinlivingorganisms.AssociateProfessorSUZUKIDaisukeAfter(inhisengineering)atKeioUniversity,AssociateProfessorSuzukiworkedasaresearcherattheGeorgiaInstituteofTechnologyandattheUniversityofTokyo,andasanassistantprofessorundertheShinshuUniversityResearchersEmpowermentProjectbeforetakinghiscurrentposition2013.Hespecializesinpolymerchemistry,colloidchemistry,andmaterialchemistry.Iampursuingresearchintofunctionalpolymermembranesandnanofibermaterialssuchasvaporizationmembranesformicrofuelcellsthatuseneatmethanolasfuel,self-humidificationlayersforH2/O2fuelcells,carbonnano-paperasnano-porousgasdiffusionelectrodes,andnickelnano-paperforalkalinefuelcellsusingthinelectrolytemembranes.Iamworkingtodevelopfunctionalpolymerparticles,atypeofmaterialthatisbotholdandnewandthatpromisesapplicationsinpaintsandinksandincomponentsforcutting-edgematerials.Inmyresearch,Ifirstdesignfunctionalparticles,proposenewsynthesismethods,properlyevaluatetheresultingparticles,and,finally,considerthepossibleapplicationsinwhichtheycanbeexpectedtoplayausefulrole.researchrelatedtoisobtainingdoctorateYoungThiscellwithathicknessof4mmwasformedfromanarrayofsixcells.flexiblefuelAstudentusesanevaluationdevicetocheckthepower-generatingpropertiesoffuelcellsbuiltwithmaterialsdevelopedWhilethisliquidlooksataglancelikemilk,herewearedispersingpolymerparticlesinnormalwater.Theparticles,whichareinvisibletothenakedeye,looklikethiswhenviewedthroughanelectronmicroscope.Eachparticlehasadiameterof400nm.developedWecarbonnanoweb(CNW)electrodewithadiameterof150nm.thisDepartment ofDepartment ofOutlook for researchMylabisworkingtodevelopmaterialsthatwillmakepossiblemorecompactfuelcellsthatareboththinnerandlighter.Wearerfuelcellswouldhavenumerousapplications,includingaspowersuppliesforrobotsandpowersuits.Outlook for students after graduationManygraduatesgoontocompletemaster'sprograms,afterwhichtheyusuallyfindinvolvedwithemploymentatcompanieschemicalmaterials,organicelectronicmaterials,andelectronicdevices.Outlook for researchIhopetoconsultwithscientiststhroughouttheworldtounderstandthenano-space,whichisinvisibletothenakedeye,andtocreatematerialsthatwillenrichourdailylives.Outlook for students after graduationMygoalisforstudentstoexperiencethejoyofcreatingthingsduringtheirschoolyearstogivethemaninterestinscience.Chemistry and MaterialsChemistry and MaterialsDeveloping thin, lightweight wearable fuel cells to supply power to robots and power suitsDeveloping cutting-edge polymer particles and pursuing science in the mysterious world of the micro-scale
