aand32ProfessorNOMURAYasushiProfessorNomuratookhiscurrentpositionin2020afterworkingintheFacultyandTechnologyatShinshuUniversityasanassistantprofessorandanassociateisprofessor.Histheoreticalonquantumchemistry.Recently,hehasbeenelectronicpropertiesofcarbonmaterialssuchasfullerenes,theglowofcertainorganicmolecules,andtheirquenchingprocess.ProfessorHATTORIYoshiyukiProfessorHattoritookhiscurrentpositionafterworkingasaresearcherinvolvedamongindustry,academia,andgovernmentintheChibaUniversityFacultyofassistantScience,professor,associateprofessorintheFacultyofTextileScienceandTechnologyatShinshuUniversity.Heiscurrentlyengagedinbasicresearchincarbonscienceandinorganicfluorinechemistry,includingresearchontheapplicationsofnanocarbonasanelectrodematerialandasanadsorptionmaterial.Iamexaminingnumerousproperties,includingopticalproperties,withoutactuallycarryingoutexperimentsbyperformingmolecularcomputationbasedonquantumchemistry.Thisapproachmakesitpossibletounderstandthetruenatureofthosepropertiesandtodiscovertherootsofthepropertiesofthesubstancesonewishestoinvestigate.Currently,mylabisfocusingitsresearchprimarilyoncarbonsubstancessuchasfullerenes.Iamcarryingoutresearchtosynthesizefluorescentnanocarbonandtousenanocarbon(carbonnanotubes,graphene,carbonnano-horns,etc.)(primaryandsecondarylithiumbatteriesandsupercapacitors).Myresearchcoversawiderangeoftopics,fromfundamentalstoapplications.TextileScienceofareaoffocuschemistrybasedresearchingtheincollaborationseniorasanaschemicalGraduatescompanies,particularlycompaniesinvolvedincarbonmaterials,electrochemicals,andfluorinechemistry,orasteachersorpublicofficials.atOne subject my lab is investigating is carbon nanotubes.Thereareabundantelectronsinthelargeredandblueareasofthismolecularorbitalmodelrelatedtoelectrondistributionforacertainfullerene.My lab succeeded in synthesizing fluorescent nanocarbon, whose applications include use in imaging materials.We also succeeded in synthesizing porous carbon nano-sheets, whose potential uses include capacitors and electrodes in high-output secondary lithium batteries.Department ofDepartment ofinenergy-storagedevicesOutlook for researchCurrently,organicsynthesisusingmolecularcomputationtopredictreactionpathwayshasbeenaddressedinthescientificliterature.Inthisway,researchersexpectthatbycalculatinganefficientreactioninadvance,itwillbepossibletocarryoutexperimentswithoutwastingtestreagentsortime.Outlook for students after graduationWhilegraduatespursuenumerouscareerpaths,manyaimtobecomesystemengineers,teachers,orpublicofficials.Outlook for researchPotentialapplicationsforthisresearcharegrowinginnumberandincludedrivepowersourcesforelectricbio-imagingmaterials,andcleaninggasesforsemiconductorsthatareenvironmentallyfriendlyandenergy-efficient.next-generationvehicles,Outlook for students after graduationseekemploymentChemistry and MaterialsChemistry and MaterialsUsing a computer to examine the properties of substances in a “dry lab,” therebyperforming chemistry without experimentationDeveloping new luminescent materials and energy-storing materials using nanocarbon
