TOPICSShinshu 100-Year Business Project —Regional development through recurrent education and talent matching.This project is an initiative in which core personnel from urban areas, matched with small and medium-sized en-terprises in Nagano Prefecture, are appointed as ‘visiting researchers’ at Shinshu University to take on the challenge of solving company problems and creating scenarios for sustainable growth. The university conducts practical research at the host company for six months and contributes to the researcher’s professional development though a program of ‘recurrent education’.The regional retention rate of program graduates is extremely high at 80-90%, and the program has been presented as a model project by the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, etc., and received the Innovation Net Award 2022 Ex-cellence Award. The program is currently being expanded horizontally to universities in other prefectures, such as Kanazawa University in Ishikawa Prefecture and the University of Toyama in Toyama Prefecture.With partnership agreements with 60% of munici-palities in Nagano, Shinshu University works to meet the needs of local communitiesShinshu University's campuses, satellite campuses, and educational and research facilities are located throughout Nagano Prefecture, and the University has concluded partnership agreements with many local municipalities. It is because of the long history of these partnerships that the University has such a well-established reputation for contributing to the local community.Highly ranked for local contribution!Shinshu University was ranked No.2 in Japan in the “2021 National University Local Contribution Rank-ing” published by Nikkei Inc.
