Mission of medical researchers are to elucidate their causes and develop novel therapies. Our gene-engineered mice help us to execute the mission. Our PhD students learn various medical research skills in laboratory. After the graduation, they play leading roles as researches in universities and companies.fitness with agingWe have developed e-Health Promotion System, composed of Interval Walking Training (IWT), portable calorimeter, and IT network system. By using the system, we have accumu-lated the database (DB) on the effects of 5-mo IWT in several thousand middle-aged and older people. By using the DB, we will develop a program to predict the effects of IWT to encourage the participants to continue IWT from their physical characteristics together with genetic background. Thereby, we will transform medical service from treatment to preven-tion. Researchers to major exercise and applied physiology. Medical staff working for preventive and rehabilitation medicine. Researchers in private companies treating with health promotion food or device. Liver and kidney of normal mouse and endothelial cell-specific RAMP2 knockout mouseGenome editing using maternal Cas9 and platform of next-generation model of human diseasesParticipants perform interval walking training (IWT) around their homes and visit a community office once a month to transfer their walking record to a sever computer via an internet. According to a trend graph sent back from the sever, they are instructed how to perform IWT by trainers etc. Recently, we have developed smart phoneapplication for this system.Measurements of esophageal temperature, skin blood flow and sweat rate during cycling exer-cise. We are developing novel technologies for genome editing (CRISPR/Cas9 method). For developing next-generation model of human diseases, we in-vented novel genome editing using maternal Cas9, which enables multiple gene modification at one time.We are studying various diseases (cancer, atherosclerosis, heart failure, diabe-tes, renal failure, cerebral infarction, liver cirrhosis and pulmonary fibrosis) and have international patents for drug discovery.Summary of ActivityOur goal is to provide evidence-based information to solve the current social problems; global warming and advanced aging. Human beings have lived broad-ly on the earth by their high ability to adapt the hot/ cold environments by nature. However, the amenity that they acquired, including food and medical conditions, has deteriorated their ability and the waste of natural resources to attain the amenity has accelerated the depletion of the resources to cause the global warming. To break the viscous circle, we would like to propose to reactivate their genetic resources to adapt the environments.Sports Medical SciencesCardiovascular Research(Chief: Professor Takayuki Shindo)Clarification of the mechanism of diseases and development of novel therapies〜From generation to analysis of original gene-engineered mice〜Exercise physiology to solve the current social problems !
