(Chief: Prof. Jun Nakayama)9Stomach cancer in N-acetylglucosaminyl transferase-deficient miceColon cancer in arylhydrocarbon receptor-deficient miceMemberAnti-inflammatory effects of immunoglobulin in Kawasaki diseaseResearch subjectResearch subjectOutlook for students after graduation・ Relationship between colon cancer onset and intestinal bacteria.・ Immunological analysis of autoinflammatory diseases. ・ Relationship between the function of mucosal sugar chain and infectious disease in developing gastric cancer.Outlook for researchCauses of illness are inherited and acquired. Analysis using genetically modified mice has revealed that genetic abnormality is not directly causing carcinogenesis but causes inflammation. Further research will be aimed at leading to the development of new treatments and preventive methods.Researcher.In case of medical doctors, most of the postgraduate students have been back to their own fields.・Genetic background of Kawasaki disease・Signal pathway from cytokine receptors・Oncogenesis by retrovirusOutlook for researchWe believe our research contributes to human health.Outlook for students after graduationMany students after graduation act as researchers in academic fields or companies.Endosomal sorting of cytokine re-ceptor Summary of ActivityA chronic inflammation was finding out in recent years to be resulted in cancer, lifestyle-related diseases, a neurodegeneration diseases, autoimmune diseases etc. Using knockout mice, we are exploring the pathogenesis of tumors and au-toinflammatory diseases and onset factors.Summary of ActivityToday, number of patient with Kawasaki disease reached 10,000 per a year in Japan. In many cases, the patients acquire their health after the treatment, but some children develop coronary artery aneurysms. Evidences in the study of Ka-wasaki disease suggest genetic factors might be involved in Kawasaki disease. So we investigate genetic background of the patients in order to contribute to the treatment and the diagnosis.PathobiologyMicrobiology and Immunology(Chief: Prof. Toshikazu Takeshita)Immunological and pathological research on chronic inflammation Take a leap of faith to reveal the unknown
