The mission of the ICCER is to create a new, integrated research strategy by promoting research at the frontier of international, academic endeavor, nurturing those research ■ elds that are essential for the future development of humankind and training the young researchers who will lead the next generation.Global Aqua Innovation Center for Improving Living Standards and Water-Sustainability (COI)Shinshu University has been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Japan Science and Tech-nology Agency (JST) as a Center of Innovation (COI) site (one of eighteen in Japan). This national-level industry-academia-government collaborative project, which combines leading technologies, will promote social systems innovation with the goal of making water use more sustainable.MEXT Program for Building Regional Innovation EcosystemsIndustrial Implementation of an Innovative Inorganic Crystal Material Technology“Shindai Crystal” is an inorganic crystal created by Shinshu University’s cutting-edge inorganic crystal growth technology (the flux method, which enables single crystals to be grown at a temperature much lower than the melting point of the material being used). The technology is being employed to develop innovative products and systems such as water puri■ cation devices, biocompatible devices and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. The portable water purifier “NaTiO” and the Japanese sake “Ikioi Masamune Shindai Jikomi”, made from Shindai Crystal water, are outstanding examples. Working together with industry, we are building an Innovation Ecosystem in Shinshu, driving the creation of solutions for local businesses.TOPICSThe Special Characteristics of Our ResearchResearch
