He taught Japanese literature and calligraphy, and his character, along with his accomplishments in the martial arts and as a scholar, had a great in■ uence on his students. The citizens of Nagano often say they feel uplifted by Asai’s lyrics as they unite the diversity of the region into one prefecture.A Shinshu University anthem was composed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the University. The chosen anthem was selected from many entries in a public competition.
