717 beds, 32 clinicsAverage Number of patients/day: 1,921Outpatients: 1,341; Inpatients: 580 (FY2020); Total staff=2,025 (including 660 physicians and 804 nurses)Prefectural Cancer Treatment CenterIn August 2006, Shinshu University Hospital was designated a Prefectural Cancer Treatment Center by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. With a view to achieving further developments in cancer therapy, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, which had served as the main regional center for treating patients with malignancies, was dissolved into the Shinshu Cancer Center in April 2013. The Center provides comprehensive cancer therapy, supportive care and cancer registration. The hospital has been accredited as a center for cancer genome medicine since October 2019, and in April 2020, with four collaborating hospitals, established the Shinshu Biobank, which has been in operation since August 2020.Treatment Information Sharing via the Shinshu Medical Net using ICTSharing regional treatment information (with patient approval) with multiple medical institutions using ICT*, we work with the relevant medical institutions to ensure staff have a clear understanding of testing, diagnosis, treatment plans, and utilize this information in the treatment provided at the University Hospital. An HCU (High Care Unit) with 10 beds was newly opened in 2019 and treats patients that still need some level of intensive care after being acutely ill. The hospital has thus consoli-dated its role as the primary healthcare provider for the region. Renovation work on the hospital wards began in 2021.Ahead of the rest of the country, the Center was designated an Advanced Emergency & Critical Care Center in 2007 and offers tertiary medical care for patients suffering from speci■ c disorders or multiple traumas such as serious burn injuries and acute poisoning.The Doctor Helicopter service, launched in October 2011, has been running smoothly and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2021. Since Shinshu University Hospital began serving as a Doctor-Heli base hospital, it has carried the responsibility of being the ■ nal destination in the prefecture for emergency rescue missions.
