28Translating Clues from Clinical Practice into the Research FieldUpper Extremities GroupUpper Extremities Group((Chief: Assoc. Prof. Masanori HayashiChief: Assoc. Prof. Masanori Hayashi))Orthopaedic SurgerySummary of ActivityUpper extremity surgery is a field aimed at restoring the function of upper ex-tremities that are injured by trauma or disease. Our group takes clues from our clinical practice and translates them into research with wide-ranging themes. In order to share our research with the world, we present at international confer-ences and submit papers to international journals, particularly on the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral nerves, tendon rupture, arthritis, elbow disease, tenocyte differentiation, and stenosing tenosynovitis.・ Development of a surgical procedure for the elbow joint ・ Cohort study of Obuse resident (Obuse study)・ Study on imaging findings and postoperative results of peripheral neuropathy・ Development of tendon suture and transplantation methods ・ Elucidation of the tenocyte differentiation and tenosynovitis onset mechanism・Application of results from research to the practical treatment of patients・New preventative measures against geriatric diseases, such as locomotive syndrome and osteoporosis・The mechanism of tenocyte differentiation and onset of tenosynovitis can be applied to the development of regenerative therapy and new treatment.Through research, you can deepen your knowledge of diseases related to upper limb sur-gery. Developing a keen eye for multifaceted phenomena will be useful for future clinical practice and further research.Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationPhotograph taken during tendon transfer surgery Flexor tendon of Lubrisyn knockout mouseInduction of tenocyte differentiation by myostatinDevelopment of New Treatments for Diseases in Bone, Cartilage, Spine, Muscle and NerveSummary of ActivityBasic research・Over 10 members have joined the Shinshu Univ.
