12 The Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS) ~The present for future children~Summary of ActivityThe Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS) is a national birth cohort study in Japan. It is commissioned by the Japanese Government. It started in January 2011. The babies born to the mothers will be followed-up until they reach 13 years of age.It is the largest birth cohort study first ever conducted in Japan that investigate the relationship between a wide range of environmental factors and children’s health and development. The investigation of school child age at 8 years old have started since 2019. Several studies have started using obained data until now.・Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy and Risk of Placental Abnormality・Alcohol Consumption During Pregnancy and Risk of Congenital Malformation・Association between pesticide usage during pregnancy and neonatal hyperbilirubinemi requiring treatment ・Maternal Exposure to Housing Renovation During Pregnancy and Risk of Offspring with Congenital Malformation・Relationship between maternal gestational weight gain and offspring’s neurodevelopment・Relationship between employment of mothers and physical development of children・Relationship between heavy metals, trace elements and neurodevelopment disorderWe will be able to investigate a wide range of environmental factors that could affect chil-dren’s health and development. The study products will be used to develop better chemical risk management strategies. The Japanese Government will also use the information to help plan health policy and services for future children. After graduation, you will be able to become ・a public health physician.・an obstetrician and gynecologist or an obstetrician and gynecologist.・an academic or a researcher.Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationPreventive Medicine and Public Health(Chief: Prof. Tetsuo Nomiyama)What will be measured ? Environmental exposures and children’s health outcomes are measured. The protocol of JECS; The babies will be followed-up until they reach 13 years old, and JECS investigate the relationship between environmental exposures and chil-dren’s health outcomes. Legal (Forensic) Medicine have a great societal responsibility for the cause of death investigationSummary of ActivityPersonal identity using the DNA typing has progressed rapidly in these last few decades. The problem with which forensic scientists have recently been con-fronted involves the technical difficulty of analyzing degraded DNA samples. Our main research field is the DNA typing of degraded DNA samples. Also, we are researching forensic pathology and molecular genetics in sudden death.・DNA typing of degraded DNA samples・Relationship between sudden death of elderly people and amyloidosis・Molecular analysis in sudden death cases among patients administered psychotropic drug therapy・ Development of systematic analysis methods for poisoning substances・ Search for markers useful for investigating causes of deathWe have a great societal responsibility for the cause of death investigation. Developments in forensic research will lead to increase of the accuracy of the cause of death investigation. ・Forensic physician・Forensic technician engaged in DNA analysis or drug analysisResearch subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationLegal Medicine(Chief: Prof. Hideki Asamura)母親子供父親他人Paternity testingAmyloid deposition in the heart.
