The “Comprehensive Cancer Center” had served as a center for treating patients with malignancies. With a view to achieving further developments in cancer therapy, the conventional “Comprehensive Cancer Center” was dis-solved into the “Shinshu Cancer Center” in April 2013. The “Shinshu Cancer Center” provides comprehensive cancer therapy, supportive care and cancer registration.The center was accredited as a designated cancer genomics hospital in October 2019 and since April 2020 has been providing cancer genomics medical care and laying the groundwork for “Bio-Bank Shinshu”.Prefectural Cancer Treatment CenterTreatment Information Sharing via the Shinshu Medical Net using ICTSharing regional treatment information (with patient approval) with multiple medical institutions using ICT*, we work with the relevant medical institutions to ensure a clear understanding of testing, diagnosis, treatment plans, and the overview of treatment plans, and utilize this information in the treatment provided at the Univer-sity Hospital. The goal is safe and advanced medical treatment, and better quality treatment for the community as a whole.Shinshu Cancer Center Outpatient Treatment Rooms* Information & Communications TechnologyTOPICSAhead of the rest of the country, the Center was designated an Advanced Emergency & Critical Care Center in 2007. The center offers tertiary medical care for patients suffering from speci c disorders or multiple traumas such as serious burn injuries and acute poisoning.Since Shinshu University Hospital serves as a Doctor-Heli base hospital, it carries the responsibility of being the nal destination in the prefecture for emergency res-cue missions. The facility’s performance record shows it has attained the highest standard in Japan. The Doctor Heli Program, launched in October 2011, has also proven successful, having been utilized more than 4,000 times as of March 2020.Emergency & Critical Care Center of the Highest National StandardsEnhancing hospital functionsThe South Ward was opened in April 2018, offering robotic surgery, hybrid surgery and other advanced surgical methods and approaches while also bol-stering existing frameworks by providing, among other bene ts, centralized management of patients with serious illnesses / injuries. An HCU (High Care Unit) with 10 beds was newly opened in 2019 and treats patients that still need some level of intensive care after being acutely ill.
