About Shinshu ― A Place to StudyZenkoji Temple国宝 善光寺 Zenkoji in Nagano City is one of the largest temples in all of eastern Japan. It has been revered for over 1,400 years as one of the main centers of the Buddhist faith in Japan, and the main hall is a national treasure. In 1998, the bells of Zenkoji rang at the start of the Winter Olympic Games as a prayer for world peace. 東日本最大級の寺のひとつである善光寺は、約1,400年もの間日本の仏教の中心として人々の信仰を集めています。本堂は日本の国宝になっています。1998年の長野冬季オリンピックの開会時には、世界の平和を願って善光寺の鐘が鳴らされました。Former Kaichi School国宝 旧開智学校 This famous school building, dating from the early Meiji era, is an important example of the western-style architecture of this period. In 2019, it became the first school building in Japan to gain recognition as a national treasure. 旧開智学校は、1876年に松本市の中央部に建てられ、その後同市の開智に移築された明治時代初期の擬洋風建築の校舎です。文明開化時代の小学校建築を代表する建物として広く知られており、2019年に、学校建築として初めて、校舎が国宝に指定されました。○C善光寺Matsumoto Castle国宝 松本城 Matsumoto Castle is sometimes called “Crow Castle” because of its black appearance. Built in 1504, the castle tower is designated as a national treasure. The castle grounds host various events throughout the year and are especially beautiful in the spring when the cherry trees around the moat come into bloom. その黒い城の姿から「烏（カラス）城」とも呼ばれるお城です。築城は1504年。天守閣は日本の国宝になっています。春は周りのお堀とともに美しい桜の花で包まれて賑わい、１年中多彩なイベントが催されています。 「信州」の愛称で親しまれている長野県は、日本列島のほぼ真ん中に位置しています。 信州には、標高3,000ｍにも及ぶ山々が連なる「日本アルプス」があり“日本の屋根”とも呼ばれています。そしていくつかある大きな山脈と山脈の間に都市が点在しています。一番の魅力は春・夏・秋・冬と季節ごとに大きく変化する自然の景色です。また数多い天然温泉に恵まれた温泉天国でもあります。 松本市の標高は600ｍ。気候は、湿度が少ないため夏も爽やかで空気は澄んでいます。清らかな水が町中に湧き、日照量が多いためにおいしい果物や高原野菜が採れる産地としても人気があります。 “Shinshu” is a friendly nickname for Nagano prefecture, which is located more or less in the center of Japan.
