I came to Japan for the rst time in 2008, and stayed in the prefecture of Nagano. I felt in love with this country. Since then, I was willing to come back to Japan and study here. While I was doing my under graduation and master’s degree course in Brazil, started looking for scholarships in order to do my PhD in Japan, and ended up coming with a MEXT scholarship in April 2018. I choose study in Shinshu University because here have highly qualied professors in my research area (Chemistry), and also because Nagano area is a calm place, surrounded by nature, which is possible to have a peaceful life style, and still close to Tokyo and other important areas in Japan, which makes possible to travel and know more about Japan. Also is very interesting being able to know more not only about the Japanese culture, but also about other cultures all over the world, once a lot of foreigners come to study in Shinshu University every year. In events promoted by the university and conversations clubs, it’s possible to talk with Japanese and foreigner students, and also in events promoted by the research laboratory is possible to know more about each other, make new friends and know more about dierent countries cultures. e daily life has its problems, like living by yourself, adapting to a new culture (normally completely dierent from the one we came from), living apart of the family and old friends. However, with the support of the university and the new friends you make in Shinshu University, it’s easier to overcome these issues and make incredible memories living in Japan, improve the Japanese language level, make friends all over the world, and achieve your dream to get a under graduation or graduation degree in Japan. Shinshu University might not be the most famous university in Japan, but it certainly has its unique charm. Located in Nagano Prefecture, it is surrounded by mountains and greenery. Just imagine seeing beautiful mountains ready to be climbed whenever you look outside a window. I certainly never get tired of these views. Living in Nagano, Matsumoto or one of the other cities where dierent campuses are located might not be as thrilling as living e.g. in Tokyo, but I have never wished I had chosen a dierent university. e tranquillity of Nagano Prefecture makes it a great place to focus on your studies, but also to make friends with fellow international and Japanese students as well as other residents outside the university. And for those who wish for the thrill of the big city from time to time, access to Tokyo is very easy and reasonably priced. But, of course, Shinshu University is more than just its location. Modern facilities, great lab equipment, devoted sta, and passionate professors are what make Shinshu University a great place to study. Everyone is happy to teach you and help you with your studies and everyday life, even if your Japanese is lacking or non-existent.
