Engineering CoreIn the FutureAfter GraduationIkkiFukudaRecentlypublishedacademicpapers.Thisresearchwashighlyevaluatedbymanyresearchersataninternationalresearchconference.Thisisoneofamathematicsseminar.IgavearesearchpresentationinEnglishwhenIstayedatZhejiangUniversityinChina.Inourlaboratory,westudyatheoryofnonlinearpartialdifferentialequationsfromtheoreticalperspectives.Especially,westudyamathematicalanalysisofdifferentialequationsthatappearinnonlinearwavetheoryandrelatedproblems.Inparticular,weareinterestedinhowthewaveshapechangesovertime,andwearedealingwiththeanalysisoflargetimebehaviorofsolutions.Themathematicalstudyofdifferentialequationsprovidesusaunifiedunderstandingthatgoesbeyondtheframeworkofindividualphenomena.Differentialequationshaveappearedinvariousfieldsofphysicsandengineeringsuchasfluidmechanicsandwavestheoryasamathematicalmodelfordescribingnaturalphenomena,andtheirapplicationrangeiswide-ranging.Throughmathematicalresearchondifferentialequations,wecangainnewinsightsthatcannotbeobtainedfromexperiments.Ouraimofthislaboratoryistodevelopstudentswhocanplayanactiveroleinavariousfieldsbyapplyingmathematicalthinking.Inaddition,wealsostudyawiderangeofperipheralfieldsanddevelopabird's-eyeviewabilitytolookatengineeringfromvariousperspectives.AssistantProfessorDoctor of Science (Hokkaido University, March, 2020)Research Field:Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations Theory of Nonlinear Partial Differential EquationsStudyingthesuccessesandfailuresofresearchingroups,withmenandwomenfromvariouscountrieshelpsstudentsdevelopstrongprofessionalcommunicationskills.Learningwhatittakestoactually“show”anaudiencethatanengineeringsolutionworks.ThestudentsintheKawamotoLaboratoryworkondevelopingimportantprofessionalcommunicationskillsbyconstructivelyevaluatingthesuccessesandfailuresoftheirresearchworkasmuchaspossibleduringtheschoolyearwiththeircolleagues.TheirtopicsofstudyrangefromITapplicationstosupportEnglisheducationinsideandoutsideoftheclassroomtoinvestigationsofthedesign/developmentchallengesofcyberphysicalsystemsforimprovingtheconditionoflifeinthecommunitiesandsocietyaroundthem.WithmoreandmorestudentseagerandwillingtodoworkinEnglishtolearnitratherthanlearnEnglishtodowork,therewillbegreateropportunitiesforresearchdiscussionsandcollaborationsoutsideofthelaboratory,outsideoftheuniversitythatwillpreparestudentsfortheworkforceevenoutsideofJapan.Byemphasizingthedevelopmentofprofessionalcommunicationskillsthroughouttheresearchprocess,graduatesentertheworkforcewithversatileskillsinadaptingtheirworkdiscussionswithdifferentcolleagues,audiences,clients,etc.AssociateProfessorShehasbeenonthefacultyattheNagano-EngineeringCampussince1996.Developing Professional Communication Skills in Engineering StudentsPauline Naomi KawamotoAfter GraduationIn the FutureEngineering Core 66
