Construction site of a reinforced soil retaining wall, connection of wall panels and the reinforcing strips (above), panoramic view (below)Pavementwhichisthemostfamiliarcivilengineeringfacility,andsoilwhichissupportingstructuressuchasabridgeandabuildingareoneofourmaintopics.Sincesoilpavementhasthehighwater-holdingproperty,freezingdamagelikecrackissuspectedincoldregion.Then,thedevelopmentofmaterialorconstructionmethodrequiredforsoilpavementwiththedurabilityagainstfreezingdamageisstudied.Moreover,researchontheearthreinforcementtechnologyforbuildingahugeearthstructureisalsoprogressed.Ifthedurabilityagainstfreezingdamagecanbeaddedtothesoilpavement,thefrostofpuddleormudisreducedandtheslip‐and‐fallaccidentofpeopleorbicyclewilldecrease.Theresultofthisresearchcancontributegreatlytothehealthyandlong‐livedsocietyaseco‐friendlyandhuman‐friendlypedestrianpavement.Manygraduatesfindemploymentinpublicsofficessuchascentralandlocalgovernments,constructioncompaniessuchasgeneralcontractorsandconstructionconsultants,andtransportationinfrastructurecompaniessuchasJRandNEXCO,andcontributetothecommunityandsocietyascivilengineers.Manystudentsfindemploymentaftergraduation,althoughsomegoontograduateschool.Associate ProfessorGraduated from Kyushu University, present post from 2015 after serving as Research Associate, Lecture and Assistant Professor at Faculty of Eng., Shinshu Univ.Eco-friendly Soil PavementEarth ReinforcementSeparation Technology using Polymer MembranesRyotaroKiyonoMembraneseparationtechnologycanbefoundinvariousindustrialareas.Thetechnologyhasbecomeincreasinglyimportantanditrequiresnewmaterialsandmembranes.Inourlaboratorynovelmembranes(hollowfiberion-exchangemembranes,compositemembranesofpolydimethylsiloxanewithcarbonnanofiber,…)havebeenpreparedusingvariouspolymersandfunctionalmaterials.Transportpropertiesacrossthemembranesareinvestigated.Somescientistssaymembranetechnologyplaysacentralroleinourdailylife.Today,membraneprocessesareusedinawiderangeofindustrialapplications:desalinationofseawater,purificationofmaterials,foodandbeverage,fuelcell,gasseparation,etc.Thenumberofsuchapplicationsisstillgrowingandenvironmentalapplicationsforcleantechnologyareverypromising.AssociateProfessorPolymer Chemistry, Polymer MaterialsPreparation of novel polymer membranes, Analysis of transport mechanism across membranes. The apparatus for membrane separation experiments and a result.
