Takeo UmezakiMylaboratoryhasbeenpromotingfundamentalstudiesrelatedtostrengthanddeformationcharacteristicsofsoil.Toestablishmeasuresforwaterqualityinenclosedwaterareas,weareconductingindoorexperiments,fieldinvestigations,andverificationexperiments.Developmentofdecontaminationtechnologyofgroundcontaminatedbyradioactivematerialsarealsoconducted.Theseprojectsarecarriedoutinconjunctionwithmanyprivatefirmsintheformofjointresearch.Diversestudiesareconductedforelucidationoffundamentalsoilmechanics,aswellassurveysandimprovementofgroundenvironment.Inadditiontodisasterpreventionandenvironmentalpreservation,researchresultinginconstructionofalunarbase,planetaryexploration,andconstructionofunderseatownarepromoted.Inthelaboratory,studentsareworkingonexperimentsrelatedtothesetasks.Professor2014Professor1995AssociateProfessor,ShinshuUniv.1993ResearchAssociate,ShinshuUniv.1987ResearchAssociate,KyushuUniv.Reconstruction after Great Eastern Japan Earthquake using a cavity structure is proposed.From SoilMechanics to Ground Environments : Disaster prevention and environmental conservationSampling of bottom sediments in enclosed water areas (Suwa Lake), surveys of strength of lake bottom ground and density log.Graduatesareworkingingovernmentagenciesandlocalgovernmentengagedincityplanninganddisasterpreventionmeasures,atconstructioncompaniesandenvironmentalresearchfirmsengagedinimprovementofsocialcapital,andatresearchinstitutionsanduniversitiesaftergraduateschool.After GraduationIn the FutureWaterEnvironment & Civil EngineeringShinji NakayaNakayaLabstudiesthevisualizationofgroundwaterflowusingchemicaltracers.Forexample,sulfurhexafluoride(SF6)andchlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)gases,whicharefoundinatmospherebyanthropogenicproduction,inwaterarepotentialdatingtracersofyounggroundwater(~50yr).18Oand2Hinwaterarealsopotentialtracerstodetecttheorigins,thesourceareas,andthepathsofgroundwaterflowofspringandwellwaters.Fromtheageandtheflowpathofgroundwater,wecanunderstandsubsurfaceenvironmentinwatercycle.Bymeasuringchemicaltracersingroundwater,wecanclarifywhenandwherethegroundwaterwasrechargedaswellasitsflowpathandresidencetimefromtherechargezonetoasamplingpoint.Suchhydrologicaldatacanbeusedtopreservetheenvironmentofwatersourceareaandtosetuptherulesforsustainablewateruse.SolvingwaterproblemsinAsiathroughourresearchesisimportantforthefutureearth.Professor Major : HydrologyRecently, have developed dating system of ground-water.Field Research : Tanzania, Bangladesh, China, Yoron, Nagano, Okinawa, Miyagi, Osaka, Hyogo etc.Groundwater sampling in Ryukyu-limestone area, Okinawa Island.Collaboration with Univ. of Ryukyu.Dating & Visualization of Ground Water-using chemical tracers-Arsenic polluted groundwater & soil core sampling in a village along old Brahmaputra river, Sonargagon, Bangladesh.
