ToshinoriTaishiThe Growth of Functional Single Crystals leads to the Future, Innovative Society!After GraduationIn the FutureElectrical& Computer EngineeringMaininterestofourlaboratoryisthegrowthandevaluationofsemiconductingandfunctionaloxidesinglecrystalssuchassilicon(Si),Siliconcarbide(SiC)andpotassiumniobate.Singlecrystalsareelectrically,optically,andmechanicallyhomogeneousmaterials.Forexample,SisinglecrystalsarewidelyusedforLSIdevicesorsolarcells.WeareoneoftheleadinggroupsinthefieldofbulkcrystalgrowthinJapan.Weareconductingvariouscooperativeresearchesrelatedto“greenmaterials”withEmeritusProfessorKeigoHoshikawa..Several typical single crystals, such as silicon and sapphire, grown in our laboratory or cooperative companies.Wearecurrentlyworkingonthegrowthofvarioussinglecrystalscalled“greenmaterials”thatcontributetoenvironmentalpreservation.Sapphire,oneofthekeymaterialsforourlaboratoryisusedasasubstrateforGaN-basedLEDdevices.Thuswestudythegrowthoflarge-scaleandhighqualitysapphirecrystalsbyverticalBridgmantechnique,whichisoneofthetypicalmeltgrowthmethods.Operators are observing the inside of the Czochralski growth furnace.
