Wood Utilization LaboratoryTakashiTAKEDAProfessor,Ph.D.•Mechanical properties of Japanese larch timber•Effects of kiln-drying on wood mechanics•Structural panels for prefabricated houses•Shinshu glued built-up beams.Foragreenerfuture,woodutilizationisthekeytosolvetheglobalenvironmentalproblemsbecausewoodisoneofthemostenvironment-friendlycharacters.Theuseofwoodpromotesstronglytopreventglobalwarmingduetoitsfunctionofcarbonsink:CO2of1toninwoodofonecubicmeter,andlessfabricationenergycomparedamongothermaterials.Researchmotivationistopromotewisewoodutilizationasmaterialsforwoodenhousesandbuildings.Mainresearchsubjectsare(1)structuralusesofwoodandwood-basedmaterialsanddevelopmentofnewwoodenmaterials,(2)mechanicalpropertiesofstructurallumberkiln-driedbythehigh-temperaturesettingmethod,and(3)mechanicalpropertiesanddurabilityofwoodenstructuralpanels.Inadditiontothose,variousinterestedthemesareenvironmentalimpactassessmentbytheLIMEforpelletmanufacturing,utilizationofconcrete-formplywoodforcivilengineering,andsoon.ABCDABCFig. 2.
