The Institute for Mountain Science (IMS) is located in the Chubu region of central Japan. IMS conducts a large number of field surveys and research on alpine environmental conservation, climate, ecosystem, the earth's crustal changes, natural disaster prevention, and sustainable natural resource management in the Japanese Alps. IMS collaborates with research institutes and universities overseas and also with various fields of study in order to develop advanced methodologies and technologies to model and monitor the ecosystem and natural resources. IMS consists of four departments:1)Mountain Ecosystem, Geomorphology, Geology andDisaster Prevention,　2) Forest Resource, 3) Graduate school education, and 4) the Department of Research　Cooperation, which is aimed at conducting international research comparing　alpine environments in Asia and around the world. IMS focuses on ecosystems, wild animals and plants in an alpine region, hydrologic and　atmospheric changes due to climate change, succession in plant and animal　habitats, cross-border pollution due to economic development in Asian　countries, long-term climate and water quality change, geomorphology and geology related to mountain formation.　山岳科学研究拠点は日本の中央に位置し、日本アルプスと豊かな自然環境に恵まれた地の利を活かし、中部山岳における豊かな自然環境の保全と、気候、生態系、地殻変動の予測，防災や持続的な資源管理のための観測と研究を行うことを設置目的とします。研究拠点のグローバルで先鋭的な研究領域は、"分野間融合とモデリング、多面的な広がりを持つ先鋭的なセンシング技術"とし、世界的な海外の研究機関とも連携・共同研究を行い、国際研究拠点を目指します。研究拠点の組織は山岳生態系研究部門、地形地質・防災研究部門、森林資源研究部門、大学院教育・研究連携部門からなり、アジアや地球規模での山岳における観測との比較、共同研究を進め国際的山岳研究拠点の役割を果たします。高山環境に生息する野生動植物の生態研究、グローバルな気候変動や自然環境の変化による水文・大気環境の変化、陸上の植物相・動物相の推移と予測、アジアの経済発展にともなう越境汚染の実態調査、過去から未来にわたるグローバルな気候変動及び水質の変動研究、山岳環境の形成にかかわる地形地質の研究などを重点的に行います。研究拠点概要　Overview研究拠点の目標　 Vision山岳生態系研究部門　森林資源研究部門Department of Forest Resource　大学院教育・研究連携部門Graduate school education, department of research cooperation.Department of Geomorphology, Geology and Disaster Prevention・日本における山岳科学の確立・山岳科学教育プログラムの推進と世界の山岳科学との連携・環境変動・防減災・生物多様性の解明と予測・分野間融合とモデリング，多面的な広がりを持つ先鋭的なセンシング技術による国際研究拠点・To establish the new research field of "MountainScience" in Japan・To promote the Mountains Science program and topursue collaborative research with mountain sciencesocieties worldwide・To predict and solve issues regarding environmentalchange, natural disasters, and biodiversity・To lead international mountain science based oncollaborative projects in various research fields,modeling techniques, and in the use of advancedremote sensing technologies山岳科学研究拠点[IMS]Institute for Mountain Science部門構成Departments2Department of Mountain Ecosystem地形地質・防災研究部門
