14Creating useful drug information by fundamental & clinical approachesSummary of ActivityThe function and role of many drug-metabolizing enzymes in human fetus and brain remain unclear although medical research advances daily. In addition, a large number of drug-drug interactions which everybody knows remain unsolved with respect to risk factors and underlying mechanisms. Thus, we are working on their problems by in vitro and in vivo approaches to provide high quality medical care and useful drug information and improve the quality of life of patients. ・ Research on drug metabolism and response in human fetal liver cells ・ Research on drug metabolism and response in human brain-derived cells・ Research on drug-drug interactions via drug-metabolizing enzymes・ Research on drug-drug interactions using adverse event reporting systemFetal liver research provides useful information about drug safety during pregnancy. Brain re-search leads to clarification of factors influencing interindividual variability in drug response. The study on drug-drug interactions contributes to prevention of side effects and proper use of drugs. This study is also linked to development of drugs not causing drug interaction. After graduation or receiving an academic degree, a lot of our laboratory students work as a medical doctor or pharmacist. A part of the students can work at a pharmaceutical company.Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationMolecular Pharmacology(Chief: Associate Prof. Satoshi Yamaori)Drug metabolism and response in human fetal liverRole of cytochrome P450 in metabolism of central nervous system-acting drugs in brain
