Keiichiro ShiraiDoyouhavearegrettableexperiencethatyourbestshotisactuallynotsogood?Inparticular,darkplacephotographingorbacklightphotographingaredifficultforus.However,thedifficultyofhardwarecanbeaddressedbysoftware.Forexample,Ifyoutakeanotherimageandmakeapairofflashandno-flashimages,youcanobtainanoise-lessandblur-lessclearimageusingarecentcomputationmethod.Ourlaboratorydevelopsmethodstoobtainmorenaturalandhighresolutionimageslikewearefeeling.Imageprocessing,especiallythecategoryofimagerestoration,stillhasamountainofproblemstoaddress.Forexample,deblurringofimagestakenwithhandheldcameraisstilldifficultone.However,iftheycanbesolved,wecanobtainmoreclearandhighresolutionimages.Inaddition,thebenefitsimprovetheaccuracyofitsapplicationfieldssuchasimagerecognitionforroboticsandsecuritysystem.AssociateProfessorreceived the Ph.D. degree from Keio University in 2006.
