Laboratory for Forest Management Tatsuhito UEKI Professor, Ph.D. Keywords : Silviculture systems Forestry management Histry of Forestry Forest certification Establishment of environmental conservation silviculture systems. For example, small clear-cutting system, successive-regeneration-cutting system, selective-cutting system. A B C D A B C Establishment of technology and management system to improve the wood production and multi-faceted public functions at the same time. Establishment of processing and distribution system of timber /wood to support the Small Scale Forestry Forests protect the life and livelihood of residents, at the same time, there are supporting the local economy from the ground. And therefore the improvement of public functions by the construction of the forest, and the production of wood resources are two sides of the same coin. Our laboratory study about silviculture systems and forest management what technology to unify the construction and use of the forest and wood, by making full use of the forest ecology, regional economics and history etc.. So we aim establish an environment-friendly forest management, such as small clear-cutting system, successive-regeneration-cutting system, selective-cutting system. In addition, these forest management aims to lead to the construction of a new industry by binding to the local timber/wood products industry and other industries. upper: clear-cutting system, middle:successive-regeneration-cutting system, lower:selective-cutting system. Environmental Symbiosis Science Division Laboratory of Forest Resource Management Masato KATOH Professor, Ph.D. Remote sensing Laser scanning GIS Forest survey Forest management Our current activities of research and education are centered in the topics of analysis of forest structure from survey, forest resource management using advanced Remote sensing and GIS, and interdisciplinary joint research of forest monitoring. Our research focus areas are in connection with advanced remote sensors; high-resolution optical sensor, LiDAR, Hyper and SAR. We have also been making forest GIS database based on precise individual tree level where are useful to study or verify various remote sensing data as test site in Japanese representative conifer plantations.
