22Approaches to the Understanding of the MindSummary of ActivityThe Department of Psychiatry place strong emphasis on clinical practice. We approach each patient with a thorough evaluation and treatment plan, and we de-vote ourselves to clinical care, teaching, and research for the future of psychiatry. Our main researches are clinical researches based on data obtained in our clinical practice. We conduct studies covering a broad range of topics including psychopathology, psychopharmacology, psychophysiology, neuropathology, psy-choradiology, and genetic, molecular, and biological psychiatry. ▶Professor: Shinsuke Washizuka▶Divisions: 1. Psychiatry The Psychiatry team provides professional treatment for general psychiatric disorders and also collaborate with spe-cialized clinics, such as Dementia Clinic and Mental Health Clinic for Children, to provide care for a wide range of psy-chiatric disorders. 2. Mental Health Clinic for Children The Mental Health Clinic for Children was established by child psychiatrists of the Department of Psychiatry. It pro-vides tertiary medical care in collaboration with local med-ical services, educational institutions, and social service agencies.PsychiatryImplementation of researches based on clinical practicePsychiatry Team（Chief: Prof. Shinsuke Washizuka）PsychiatrySummary of ActivityWe provide care to diverse patients referred from all over the Nagano prefecture. Patients include those with comorbid physical conditions and those with complex clinical presentations. We accept referrals of treatment-resistant cases and pro-vide high-quality medical treatment such as modified electroconvulsive therapy and clozapine treatment. Each member of the department engage in studies in areas of their interest. ・Social rehabilitation of patients with mood disorders・Temperament and characteristics of patients with eating disorders・Association of estrogen receptors with depression・Functional brain imaging using near-infrared spectroscopyOur multimodal approach based on clinical practice will lead to findings which will be of prac-tial use in clinical psychiatric settings.
