15Innovative researches covering from molecular genetics/molecular biology to home medical careSummary of ActivityOur department makes efforts to elucidate the basic and clinical problems in the fields of respiratory, infectious and allergy diseases by means of various re-search modalities of case study, epidemiology, molecular biology, genetic study and animal study. The major diseases studied in our department include asthma/COPD, lung cancer, respiratory infectious diseases, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnea syndrome and high-altitude pulmonary edema that mainly occurs in the highland of Shinshu area in Japan.・The molecular genetics in high-altitude adaptation and acclimatization.・ The effect of different drugs on prevention of group III pulmonary hypertension by using rat model・The pathophysiology of IgG4-related respiratory disease・Seeking the optimal treatment for non-tuberculous mycobacteria infection.Respiratory, infectious and allergy diseases are increasingly common and expected to occu-py 5 among the world’s 10 leading causes of death in 2020 (COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, tuberculosis, and HIV infection). During training, students and residents learn to act as valuable members of the medical team. In clinical practice, we make the medical environment bright and provide a sense of accomplishment.The division of gastroenterology is divided into the liver, stomach and intestine, and biliary tract and pancreas teams. Each team provides specialized medical treatment to people in need. The division of nephrology concentrates on not only kidney transplantation, but also the treatment of nephritis and blood purification therapy. The division of hematology provides medical care mainly related to bone marrow transplantation. Together, we perform research in key fields that are decided by each study group.
