14Creating useful drug information by fundamental & clinical approachesSummary of ActivityThe function and role of many drug-metabolizing enzymes in human fetus and brain remain unclear although medical research advances daily. In addition, a large number of drug-drug interactions which everybody knows remain unsolved with respect to risk factors and underlying mechanisms. Thus, we are working on their problems by in vitro and in vivo approaches to provide high quality medical care and useful drug information and improve the quality of life of patients. ・ Research on drug metabolism and response in human fetal liver cells ・ Research on drug metabolism and response in human brain-derived cells・ Research on drug-drug interactions via drug-metabolizing enzymes・ Research on drug-drug interactions using adverse event reporting systemFetal liver research provides useful information about drug safety during pregnancy. Brain re-search leads to clarification of factors influencing interindividual variability in drug response. The study on drug-drug interactions contributes to prevention of side effects and proper use of drugs. This study is also linked to development of drugs not causing drug interaction. After graduation or receiving an academic degree, a lot of our laboratory students work as a medical doctor or pharmacist. A part of the students can work at a pharmaceutical company.Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationMolecular Pharmacology(Chief: Prof. Shigeru Ohmori)Drug metabolism and response in human fetal liverRole of cytochrome P450 in metabolism of central nervous system-acting drugs in brainHow to improve clinical practice?— The answer is: EDUCATION!Summary of ActivityMedical education in the 21st century has rapidly modernized: from experi-ence-based to theory-based, and from spoon-feeding lectures to collaborative task-based activities in view of social constructivism. With its educational activities and relevant research, Center for Medical Educa-tion and Clinical Training contributes to filling the academic and practical need for clinical providers and leaders in the health professions. ・ Perceptions of health professions who are involved in outreach activities・ Curriculum reform and its influence on students・ Innovative collaborative/active learning approaches・ Educational assessment procedures for clinical clerkship・ We innovated a blended group learning and implemented it into a preclinical curriculum. It improved students’ motivation.・ We clarified tutors’ perceptions in an outreach activity program.・ We developed a test management system by collaborating with a company.By achieving fundamental knowledge on medical education, you will be able to analyze your educational activities, and revise them. You will achieve quantitative and qualitative research methods.Research subjectOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationMedical Education and Community Medivine(Chief: Prof. Tsuyoshi Tada)The interprofessional education program by means of group work and roll play.Graduate students can conduct research at various professional development stages; early exposure, preclinical, clinical, postgraduate, and continuous development.
