13Legal (Forensic) Medicine have a great societal responsibility for the cause of death investigationSummary of ActivityPersonal identity using the DNA typing has progressed rapidly in these last few decades. The problem with which forensic scientists have recently been con-fronted involves the technical difficulty of analyzing degraded DNA samples. Our main research field is the DNA typing of degraded DNA samples. Also, we are researching forensic pathology and molecular genetics in sudden death.・ DNA typing of degraded DNA samples・ Relationship between sudden death of elderly people and amyloidosis・ Molecular analysis in sudden death cases among patients administered psychotropic drug therapyWe have a great societal responsibility for the cause of death investigation. Our lab has a major focus in stem cell biology and its application, where we aim to provide novel therapies for refractory diseases. ・ Preclinical transplantation study of ES or iPS cell-derived cardiomyocytes for cardiac repair・ Generation of stem cell-derived biological pacemakers for cardiac bradyarrhythmias・ Establishment of novel treatments for muscular dystrophy by combining cell and gene therapiesDespite the remarkable progress in medical technology, there are still many patients who suffer from refractory diseases that require organ replacement. Regenerative medicine is an attractive alternative therapy for this. Our mission in this field is to study stem cell biology and clarify the feasibility of using stem cells for organ repair to provide effective, life-chang-ing treatments in the future.
