―36―Cognitive Decline in Heart Failure—Research for elucidating the pathological mechanism and developing new occupational intervention—Heart disease is a major cause of death in Japan. Heart failure is referred to as the end stage of heart disease. The number of heart disease patients in Japan is predicted to increase gradually as the population ages, reaching 1.3 million by 2035. Reported prevalence of cognitive decline in the heart failure in acute decompensation settings is highest, at 80%. Cognitive decline in heart failure has adverse effects on the patient’s everyday life (e.g. adherence to medication regimens, numerous lifestyle modications) and health status. However, the pathological mechanism of cognitive decline in heart failure is still unclear. Therefore, we explore the pathophysiological mechanisms and develop new occupational therapeutic intervention for heart failure.Graduated from Shinshu University of Health Science in 2014. Worked as hospital occupational therapist from 2014 to 2015. Enrolled in Shinshu University graduate school's Masters degree course, 2016.The cardiac rehabilitation team is multi-disciplinary, with an occupational therapist (OT) as one of the team members. Occupational Therapy is expected to implement a new approach to cognitive decline in heart disease. Through our study, we are able to provide integrated living support for heart disease patients.Research Assistant Masaaki SatoThe occupational eld of OTs ranges from hospitals to regional facilities and public administration. In any field it is important to have clinical questions in daily practice and to make an effort to solve them. I hope OTs are willing to make a great effort for the happiness of clients.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationOccupationalTherapyApplied OccupationalTherapyThe aim of our study is to explore the pathophysiological mechanisms and to develop new occupational therapeutic intervention for heart failure.Occupational therapy for a patient with heart diseaseOur research team consists of multiple medical staffGroup-based play program involving children's motor skills developmentOccupational therapist provides feeding therapy to a childUsing toys in therapy to improve a baby's ne motor skillsA wonderful future for all children !Occupational therapists support children’s developmentI am studying the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention in infant homes. An infant home is a facility where babies and infants are admitted to due to various difculties in their families’ circumstances. I am working in an infant home as a part-time occupational therapist and received consultations from facility staff about infants who have developmental delay or difculties in their activities of daily living. I provide advice from the viewpoint of an occupational therapist. I am studying which occupational therapist interventions are useful for an infant’s development and daily living. Currently, I am developing not only individual correspondence but also a group-based play program to encourage better development in children.Graduated from Department OT, School of Allied Medical Sciences, Shinshu University; and completed Master’s course in education (special education) at Shinshu University. Specialty is OT for children with developmental disabilities. Assistant Professor Miwa AkahaneToday, the rehabilitation of children is provided in hospitals, but from now on, it will be needed in social such as the community, facilities, kindergartens, school etc. It is necessary for occupational therapists to objectively demonstrate that we are professionals who can provide multifaceted support such as in medical science, development, daily living, and various environments. Now, occupational therapists specializing in child development are very few, but children’s needs will increase in the future. It is not easy to support various children with disabilities and their families, but there are also great pleasures. I dream of a wonderful future for all children and I want to support their development as an occupational therapist.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationcan surely help your life.OccupationalTherapyApplied OccupationalTherapy
