Probably all women have experienced a week before menstruation where they become more irritable than usual, feeling depressed for no reason, isolating themselves, or have a change in appetite. Such mental disorders that are specic to woman have been assumed to involve female sex hormones, but the actual mechanism behind this remains poorly understood. We are working with the Department of Psychiatry, the University Hospital, and the Department of Drug Discovery Science (collaborative research between Shinshu University and Kissei Pharmaceutical) to conduct research aimed at elucidating this mystery.Graduate of University of Yamanashi School of Medicine. Completed doctoral program at the University’s graduate school (Doctor of Medicine). Assumed present post after working in Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet, Texas Medical Center, and Shinshu University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.Professor Nobuhiro SugiyamaOur goal is to develop innovative new drugs to mitigate and prevent premen-strual mental disorders. Some drugs that affect the balance of female sex hormones may increase the risk of breast cancer or uterine cancer, but we are carefully studying the mechanism behind this risk at the molecular level with the aim of nding drugs with fewer side effects. It is our hope that women can be healthy in both mind and body and participate actively in society throughout their lives. The clinical eld represents a treasure trove of research topics. Graduates should have good questions in their clinical practice, pursue those questions in the form of research, and bring their results back to clinical practice.A medical professional who is trusted by patients and their families is also, at the same time, an excellent researcher.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationdeveloping devices in companies.OccupationalTherapyApplied OccupationalTherapyAn experiment scene. We excite an intracerebral neuron using an intracerebral magnetic stimulation device, which gives brain cortex electromagnetic stimulation from the outside and performs an usability test of brain, nerves and muscle.Left image :Mirror therapy that is used in rehabilitationRight gure :It was discovered that the function of the brain during mirror therapy is associated with the vividness of motor imagery abilityA wonderful future for all children !Determining means of more effective rehabilitation and help with the recovery of patientsThough it is a similar disease, through rehabilitation, there are those who can recover and those who do not. I think that motor imagery ability is a factor which is associated with this difference. I investigate “brain activity” evaluated by electroencephalogram and brain blood ow and “the athletic capability” and their relationship with “motor imagery ability” as measured by various methods.Enforcement contents of rehabilitation do not have the clear criteria presently. However, in determining “exercise capacity” and “brain activity” and their relationship to “motor imagery ability”, we perform a program suitable for the motor imagery ability of subjects and which may provide more effective rehabilitation.Studying to determine invisible aspects of an image in visible form feeds a power to obtain results objectively. Having an objective viewpoint will lead to catching these results calmly, and can surely help your life.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationGraduated from Niigata University of Health and Welfare, worked as occupa-tional therapist at Aizawa Hospital from 2006 to 2011.
