―34―Realizing ideal working conditions: The role of occupational therapists for a return to work programThe reinstatement support program is drawing attention because it promotes the smooth reinstatement of workers who are on leave and prevents absence from leave. But there are still few programs operating in Matsumoto, a city in Nagano Prefecture. We are pursuing development of a community-based return to work program.Making workplaces where people with depression can easily act on to improve their quality of life, as well as to enlighten the mental health for the general company.Occupational therapists are good at evaluating human characteristics, weaknesses, behavioral characteristics and the environment. Cultivating these perspectives is useful in clinical situations, regardless of the eld. However, changing one's lifestyle is not easy. Occupational therapists assess clients’ physical and cognitive impairments and support them by arranging appropriate assistive technology and home modication which suits their lifestyle until they become established in real life. We are engaged in the development and effect evaluation of these lifestyle support programs. We also develop usability evaluation methods and make suggestions for diffusion of the usage of new assistive technology so that the technology and the delivery services become “good” for users.The more appropriate assistive technology and home modication spreads among elderly or disabled persons, the more safely and securely they can live life, and it may lead to extending their healthy life span. Creating “good” assistive technology and services which reect their perspectives may lead to new business opportunities. In this super-aging society, there is a growing need for these types of research.Graduates are working as occupational therapists in hospitals, care insurance facilities, and municipal governments and providing necessary support for the safe and secure life of individuals.
