One of the indicators to measure the effect of these medicines is the motor function evaluation conducted by physical therapists. Since evaluations are sometimes carried out internationally, they are required to be executed accurately and easily in any country. However, currently, this is difcult to achieve. Therefore, I devised an accurate, simple, and painless evaluation method that aims at how we can improve the physical function. We will be conducting research on the maintenance of lower limb function by evaluating the amount of activity and recommending the correct braces.Worked at School of Health Sciences Faculty of Medicine, Shinshu University since 2009. Research eld is evaluation index for neuromuscular disease and in-tervention method using motor learning.Assistant ProfessorHitomi NishizawaNew treatments for muscular dystrophy are now being developed, and the concepts that I learned as a student are already changing. At present, the research activities that we conduct gradually can signicantly improve the development of advanced medical care. The knowledge that you gain can be used in pediatric departments in general hospitals and specialty pediatric facilities. There are also physical therapists who are employed in welfare institutions. The pediatrics discipline is in a minority, but the workplaces where therapists are active are increasing.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationMaking a program to maintain functional capacity of the elderlyLiving daily life independently is important for maintaining physical function in the elderly. In cases where there is a need for some assistance, disuse will decrease muscle strength, exibility, walking speed, and physical activity. My concern is to prevent dysfunction, increase exercise performance and promote social activity. My studies on gerontology research are as follows: 1) development of a self-efcacy scale for health promotion activity; 2) identify the relationship between bio-psychosocial factors and functional capacity; 3) conduct intervention study for increasing muscle strength and preventing falls; 4) measure dual task walk ability, and 5) investigation of lifestyle for longevity in rural community. All of us live with ageing and senescence, and the study of ageing can help to improve our future. The health condition of the elderly is related to physiological, psychological and sociological factors. Based on research findings concerning these factors, I hope to make program for maintaining active senior life. After being exposed to ndings in gerontological research, I expect students to work as physical therapist by using their knowledge and experience. My hope is that they will become leaders in primary prevention in the eld of health science.
