―27―How do you measure the effects of physical therapy interventions? One of the fundamental aspects of physical therapy is the assessment of human movement. In order to study the movement of healthy and disabled subjects, we use 3D motion analysis systems, accelerometers and gyro sensors. It is important to understand the differences in movement between healthy and disabled subjects, and physical therapists use this knowledge in the decision making process. This is also important for evidence based physical therapy practice.Masters and PhD degrees in disability science from Tohoku University. Before his present position, he worked as an assistant professor at Yamagata Prefec-tural University of Health Sciences.Professor Kimito MomoseEvidenced-based medicine is important for the medical treatment of patients. Following this scientic approach, evidence-based physical therapy was developed. Our studies will be able to contribute to the evidence base of physical therapy. You are not only the physical therapists in the embryo, but also the scientist in the embryo. You will be the leader of the physical therapy profession and for the health sciences eld in the world.Outlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationPhysicalTherapyScientic quest for motor control and motor learning in rehabilitation and sportsPhysicalTherapyMy research is intended to seek answers into safer and more effective physical therapy by analyzing the specicity of motor control and motor learning in the eld of rehabilitation and sports through the use of quantitative measurement system such as motion sensors, electromyograms (EMG), and near infrared spectroscopy, among others. These research activities also provide the opportunity to develop new measurement systems and training equipment such as a mechanical perturbation system aimed at primary prevention of sports injury.I would like to contribute to the development of quality in the clinical activity of physical therapists and people’s quality of life by promoting valid and reliable research on motor control and motor learning. The research abilities and logical thinking skills acquired in research activities will be applicable to bridge practice and research in various elds such as health care, medical care, welfare, education/research institutions, and sports facilities after graduation.Fundamental PhysicalTherapyOutlook for researchOutlook for students after graduationGraduated from Kogakuin University. Worked as a physical therapist at Tokyo Welfare Pension Hospital from 1981 to 1993. PhD from Shinshu University. Appointed as Professor from 2002.Professor Teiji KimuraFundamental PhysicalTherapyAnalysis of the specicity of motor control in trunk muscle activities when a person raises their feet using a foot switch, surface electromyogram, and ultrasound diagnostic imaging apparatus.Analysis of the effect of perturbation training to prevent ankle inversion sprain in sports using the near infrared spectroscopy and custom-made mechanical perturbation systemAnalysis of inuence in different focus of attention to the gait pattern using a small motion sensorThe motion of the sit to the stand is one of the activities of daily life. How do we decide the its velocity? The importance is in the efciency of the action itself. Our ndings suggested that the lower speed of the sit to stand make angular impulse of support torque of the muscle torque larger and angular impulse of the support torque of interaction torque smaller. This means that a slow sit to stand action needs greater muscle effort to stand up.slowfast
