―21―Medical TechnologyBasic research on autoinammatory and infectious diseasesBasic research is a gratuitous act done from pure interest in life, but the result can be very benecial. I have discovered ASC and PHACTR 3 from basic research. Now, it is becoming clear that ASC is an adapter molecule of a novel signaling pathway of innate immunity and it is related to autoinammatory diseas-es. PHACTR3 is involved in the regulation of cell motility, and PHACTR3-related proteins are associated with the top causes of human death, such as cancer, and coronary artery disease. In addition, research on non-H. pyrori (NHP) helicobac-ters that is the cause of gastritis led to the discovery of new diagnostic markers and the elucidation of the route of infection.Who expected the information revolution several decades ago? When thinking about what is important, knowledge is important, but a research mind to see things analytically is more important. It is time to understand the cause of all diseases at the genetic level, and human beings are even trying to obtain technologies that can change the genome.
