OkadaLabThereisademandformaterialswithmolecularrecognitionandseparationabilities.Preciselycontrolledadsorptivepropertiesatamolecularlevelareaprerequisite,andthuswehavebeenorganizingfunctionalorganicgroupsonsilica-basedmaterialstoinduceaselectiveadsorption.Spatialdistributionofthefunctionalgroupsinthesilicamatrixhasbeencontrolledtocreatetheactivesites(e.g.,porousstructures,reactionnano-vessels)forfutureapplicationsasanartificialenzymeandasensingdevice.Wehavebeeninterestedinhierarchicallydesignednaturalproductssuchaspreciousstonesandbeautifulanimaltissues.Periodicarrangementsofparticleswithdefinedshapescreatesuchproducts.Hybridizationoffunctionalgroupsonthesurfacesofparticleshasbeeninvestigatedforoptimizingtheperformancesincludingafacileseparationoforganicmolecules,andthedetectionofmoleculesbynakedeyes.TomohikoOkada,Associate ProfessorHe received his Dr. degree from Waseda University in 2004.
