Laboratory of Animal Developmental Genetics Hiroshi KAGAMI Professor & JSPS P. O. Keywords; Animal Stem Cell Breeding Organ Regeneration Biotechnology Recently, we have developed the novel strategies for avian biotechnology using pluripotent stem cells and germ cells. These strategies will be among the most powerful tools for future poultry breeding. *Developmental regulation of avian stem cells A B C D A B C Biotechnology Division *Use of avian eggs as bioreactors *A novel system for poultry breeding Novel strategies to manipulate avian embryos. Invited seminar in an International Meeting for stem cell manipulation. Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology Hiroshi FUJII Professor Key words: ・Genome expression ・Nuclear receptor ・Epigenetic regulation ・Signal Transduction ・Metabolism Recent studies have shown that the etiology of most human diseases such as life-style related diseases and cancers are derived from complex interactions of target genes with environmental factors; however, the molecular bases of these interactions remain unclear. Since age-related diseases are likely to increase in the near future, both basic research and development of therapeutic reagents are necessary for prevention. Most of these diseases are caused by disruption of signaling networks of cell growth and differentiation, metabolism, inflammation and immune systems. Our laboratory aims to establish the molecular basis for the etiology of these diseases by analyzing signaling networks to develop their prevention and treatment. C D Analysis of regulatory mechanisms of genome expression and its functions in human cancer cells Biotechnology Division (1) Elucidation of regulatory mechanisms of genome expression, its function and their application (3) Elucidation of regulatory mechanisms of stem cell homeostasis and its application for regenerative studies. (2) Elucidation of regulatory mechanisms of nuclear receptor-mediated signaling in various diseases High expression of FABP5 promotes cell growth and metastatic potential of cancer cells 31
