Laboratory of Animal ecology Akiko TAKII Assistant Professor Sika deer, Asiatic black bear, GPS telemetry, wildlife management, denning behavior We have been studying the ecology of Asiatic black bears and sika deer in Nagano prefecture, central Japan. Although conflicts between these animals and people are increasing, little is known about their ecology. These knowledge will provide better understanding of the wild animal and essential information for executing effective wildlife management. My aim is to indicate the behavior, such as denning ecology and social interactions of Asiatic black bears, and seasonal migration of sika deer, in order to reduce conflicts and to conserve these animals.
