Laboratory for Regulation of PhotobiologicalProcessesMasanobu KOJIMA Professor・photobiochemistry・photoresponse・metabolomics・gene expression・protein expressionSeriouschangesinnaturalenvironmentalconditionsareworriedduetothedestructionoftheO3layerandglobalwarmingcausedbyincreasedconcentrationsofCO2intheatmosphere.Inaddition,farmersneedtoheedthedemandsofconsumersforsafefoodscultivatedusingasfewagrochemicalsandfertilizersaspossible.Undertheseconditions,“PlantFactories”,systemsforusingtechnologytogrowplantsunderhighlyregulatedconditions,arecurrentlyattractingconsiderableinterestamongpeopleworkingtodeterminethefuturedirectionoffarminginJapan.Inourlaboratory,weareusinglightemittingdiodes(LEDs),new,highlyefficientartificiallightsthatcouldbeusedforsuchplantfactories,andstudyingindetailthephotoresponsemechanismofplantsandfungigrownundertheselightconditions.1.
