ResearchThe University’s Vision for ResearchPursue research aimed at creating innovation and contribute to the sustainable growth and development of society through efforts centered on the Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER), which is built around fields that also serve as the strengths and distinguishing characteristics of Shinshu University’s research: energy-related compound materials, textiles and fiber engineering, water purification and recirculation/recycling, life sciences and mountain science.Establish frameworks facilitating the smooth pursuit of research activities by researchers as we strive to further enhance research quality.(1) Vision for Research Standards and Achievements(2) Vision for Implementing ResearchInterdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER) brings together the research fields for which Shinshu University is notedThe Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER) was established to enable our resources to be focused on research fields that are unique to Shinshu University (carbon materials, energy, environmental science and materials, fiber engineering, mountain science, and biomedical science). We aim to boost our research and technological innovation capabilities by developing the research activity of our junior faculty members and collaborating with distinguished researchers from all over the world. We are confident that cutting-edge research and the integration of discrete research fields via ICCER will lead to the development of a Center of Excellence.Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research(ICCER)Institute of Carbon Science and Technology (ICST)To promote carbon innovation in the 21st century, the Institute of Carbon Science and Technology (ICST) focuses on the development of the new technologies and materials which will become the future core competencies of Japanese industry, and carries out world-leading research in the field of nanocarbons, aiming at contributing to a broad range of fields including the environment, energy, biotechnology, medicine and ICT.Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS)We aim to develop measures for the unprecedentedly rapid aging of Japanese society and conduct comprehensive biomedical research in order to maintain Japan’s competitiveness in science through synergistically integrated projects related to biomedical science, medicine, and the environment.Institute for Fiber Engineering, Shinshu University (IFES)Rooted in the textile engineering sciences, the Institute for Fiber Engineering encompasses the fields of Biology, Materials Science, Robotics and Kansei, and aims to exploit its world-leading research resources to develop innovative textile technologies.Center for Energy and Environmental Science (X-Breed)In order to achieve drastic cuts in energy consumption and develop materials with a low environmental impact which will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, the Center for Energy and Environmental Science promotes the cross-breeding of ideas between the innovative branches of materials science and also within related disciplines, enabling the solution of complex problems which have proved resistant to more conventional techniques.Institute of Mountain Science (IMS)The institute aims to resolve urgent environmental issues in mountainous areas accompanying global climate change through scientific research, and to explore ways of promoting the harmonious coexistence of human activities and the natural environment in mountainous areas through the regeneration, conservation and utilization of the natural environment and disaster prevention.Research31
