PhilosophyVisionPhase Three Medium-term Goals(Period: April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2022)•Shinshu University values the rich, natural environment of Shinshu and its history, culture, and the work of its people.•Shinshu University strives to conserve nature, improve the welfare of all people, and cultivate industry through intellectual properties and activities. •Shinshu University is a place where the intersection of diverse cultures and ideas fosters young individuals to understand and accept these diverse elements and live in harmony. •Shinshu University values independent personality. •We, at Shinshu University, utilize our skills and accomplishments not to harm, but to benefit all people.Philosophy & VisionBased on the university’s philosophy, Shinshu University has adopted the following goals regarding education, research, regional contribution, and international exchange: [Education]Shinshu University fosters individuals with advanced technical knowledge and abilities, who love precious Nature; accept the diversity in the cultures created by human beings and ideologies; and are educated individuals who exhibit rich communication skills, are cultivated, and have a strong desire to seek concrete issues and resolve them.[Research]The university advances wisdom in society by supporting creative research for sustainable development, sharing the results of these accomplishments with the surrounding region, and creating a learning environment that attracts young talent.[Regional Contributions]The university is highly focused on advancing the cooperation/coordination between itself and each related field by opening itself to the public in order to conserve Shinshu’s natural environment, succeed and develop its history/culture, improve the welfare of each individual, and resolve the concrete issues regarding industrial development. [International Exchange]In order to serve as a powerful driving force for promoting international exchange in the region, it proactively accepts talented students and researchers from around the world.Preamble: Shinshu University’s Basic GoalsAt Shinshu University, surrounded by beautiful mountains, we cherish our natural environment as well as the history, culture and traditions of the Shinshu region, and we strive to achieve a society that is considerate of and toward all people. Furthermore, as a comprehensive institute of higher education, we pursue education and research that can be of use to the world at large, strive to cultivate human resources capable of independently creating new things, and contribute to the development of the local region and society.[Education]Shinshu University makes use of the Shinshu region’s abundant natural blessings in our education efforts as we strive to cultivate highly knowledgeable and capable human resources who cherish the precious gifts of Mother Nature, are capable of creating new culture and can contribute to the unflagging growth and development of our society.[Research]Based on harmony with nature, Shinshu University pursues unique, interdisciplinary research that is globally applicable, and communicates the results of that research to local communities and the world at large.[Internationalization]Shinshu University promotes more active exchanges between students/teachers and people throughout the world as we aim to foster globally minded human resources and international-scale research.[Regional Contributions]The Shinshu region is surrounded by mountains and boasts a diverse history and culture as well as world-leading longevity among its residents, and Shinshu University takes advantage of these unique characteristics in our pursuit of regional education, health and welfare improvements as well as contributions to the further development of local industries.
