Visiting Professor Motohiro Maebuchi修了生の声Voice of Graduates私は、学部から修士課程まで信州大学農学部と大学院農学研究科で学びました。その後、企業で1年と研究生期間の1年を経て、博士課程は信州大学総合工学系研究科で研鑽を積む機会を得、2008年に博士号を取得しました。学位取得後、米国NIHでの留学を経て、京都府立医科大学に採用され、現在は京都薬科大学に勤務しています。研究面では、天然有機化合物の全合成に取り組み、研究計画の立案と実施、問題解決、論文作成という研究の一連の流れを経験させていただきました。学内外との共同研究では様々な研究背景を持つ方々と議論することで多くのことを学びました。また、大学院講義などでは、専門の有機合成化学とは少し異なる研究分野の話を聞く機会があり、このことが今では大きな財産となっています。博士号は研究者へのパスポートとも言われており、これから求められるものと思います。しかしながら、総合工学系研究科の博士号を取得するには多くの困難を乗り越える必要があり、その道は孤独で険しいものです。加えて、現在は複数の専門分野を持つことが求められつつあります。生物・食料科学専攻では様々な専門分野の先生方がおられますので、対応しやすい環境にあるのではないかと思います。私の場合はデータに対して真摯に向き合い、妥協を許さないシビアさが当然のものとして存在する研究環境にありました。研究者の不正が明らかになる昨今ですが、生物・食料科学専攻では今でもそのようなものとは無縁であると信じています。博士課程に進む人は何かしらの目的を持った人だと思います。困難に打ち勝ち、孤独を乗り越えたその先にある「愉しみ」を目指して博士課程への門を自ら開いてもらえればと願います。I earned a Ph. D. degree at Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Technology, Shinshu University in 2008. Then, I studied abroad at National Institutes of Health in USA. After I took a position at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, am working at Kyoto Pharmaceutical University and my field of study is medicinal chemistry. When I was a doctoral student, I had been working with synthetic studies on annonaceous acetogenins under my supervisors’ direction. Recently, it is estimated that some kinds of research fields are required. Thus, it was my fortune that I could study not only my major of synthetic organic chemistry but also other scientific fields through graduate lectures and so on. I would like you to learn various research topics because Department of Bioscience and Food Production Science has a wide variety of major fields.“Ph. D. degree” seems to be “a passport for researcher”. To get a Ph. D. degree inquires numerous difficulties. However, when you could overcome it, you would feel great enjoyment. Needless to say, finding new thing(s) is essential for research. To obtain new thing(s), it is necessary that experi-ment, data analysis, and deep thinking. In addition, I learned from my supervisors that scientific discussion must be based on data. Considering recent misconduct in research, it is crucial factor for the qualities of a researcher.Although it is a long journey to earn Ph. D. degree, the process should be delightful.
