Shinshu University Profile 2015
50/88

For the origination of the expected carbon innovation of this century, we are developing new technologies and materials as the potential core competence of the Japanese industry. We also conduct the world highest level of researches in the nano-carbon field, aiming to contribute to a wide range of areas such as environment, energy, biomedical, ICT, etc. to contribute to the realization of sustainable society.Institute of Carbon Science and Technology (ICST)The main objective at the Center for Energy and Environmental Science is to address all aspects of science and technology relevant to the development and real-world applications of innovative materials and devices via cross-breeding of ideas (X-Breed). Specific areas will include but not be limited to: (1) energy conversion, (2) energy storage, (3) photovoltaic systems, (4) optical devices and (5) analytical science. Our strategy toward this goals is the ‘X-Breeding’ of ideas from Rising-Star and Super-Star researchers from interdisciplinary fields. Through this, we will contribute to the realization of sustainable society.Center for Energy and Environmental Science (X-Breed)The Institute for Fiber Engineering, Shinshu University (IFES), encompasses related areas that include fiber engineering, biology, material science, machine and robot engineering, and Kansei engineering as well as use the world leading research resources in the fiber engineering field. Our goal is to develop the leading edge innovative fiber technologies and aim to contribute to the realization of sustainable society. Institute for Fiber Engineering, Shinshu University (IFES)At the Institute of Mountain Science, we aim to solve the pressing environmental issues of the mountain region due to the global climate change, based on the scientific research foundations. Our goal is to explore the ways to blend natural environment and the human activities in the mountain region so we can realize the regeneration, conservation, and exploitation of the natural environment and disaster prevention, and appropriate management of forest resources.Institute of Mountain Science (IMS)At the Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS), we aim to develop measures for a never before experienced rapidly aging society and conduct comprehensive biomedical science research in order to maintain Japan’s scientific competitiveness through synergistically integrated projects related to biomedical science, medicine, and the environment.Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBS)Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER)Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research(ICCER)50
