To meet such demands, The Center for Energy and Environmental Science brings together energetic researchers from a vast field of science and technology to materialize unprecedented ideas (cross-breeding of ideas). We will take a responsive and leading role in the realization of a sustainable society. Energy storage GroupPhotovoltaic GroupMaterial design and analysis GroupFuel cell GroupOptical devices GroupInterdisciplinary realm GroupThe Energy storage Group will focus on controlling mass transport phenomenon through designing and optimization of interphase and interface. Unique crystal engineering such as ‘Flux coating’ will be applied to realize designed structures for efficient transport of charge carriers. Realization of advanced energy storage materials and devices showing game-changing performance will be conducted. In the Photovoltaic Group, realization of 3rd generation solar cells utilizing organic, inorganic, and inorganic-organic hybrids will be conducted. Materialization of solar cells with conversion efficiency of >30% will be our goal. The Material design and analysis Group will develop new analytical techniques based on, but not limited to, diffractometry and scattering methods to ‘visualize’ and clarify molecular-scale interfacial phenomenon. The advancement of such state-of-the-art methods will be targeted towards applications including energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors) and fuel cells, photovoltaics, photonics, and so on. The Fuel cell Group places emphasis on the nano-scale design of efficient interface/interphase for improved transport and kinetics. Tailored nano-catalysts such as innovative nanosheets will be developed for highly activate and durable catalysts. Research and development for next generation electrolysis based on fuel cell technologies will also be pursued.The Optical devices Group strives to develop novel optical devices with unprecedented functionalities. Optical properties of materials synthesized in other groups as well as collaborating bodies will be studied in detail to implement them into next-generation optical devices. The Interdisciplinary realm Group will concentrate on implementation and cultivation of research subjects yielded through X-breeding of ideas.
