Aims of the Graduate School of Science and Technology

In order to overcome the imminent challenges faced by Japan, including problems related to energy resources, food supplies, water, the natural environment, globalization, and birthrate declines coupled with the aging of society, Shinshu University strives to foster a new breed of scientific and technological specialists equipped with deep-reaching knowledge and skills in both fields as well as keen insights and the ability to develop practical applications. In April 2016, we rearranged and combined the 18 departments of the former Graduate School of Science and Technology and Division of Agriculture to establish the current Graduate School of Science and Technology, which comprises the five departments of science, engineering, textile science and technology, agriculture, and biomedical engineering.
Making use of the diverse range of academic fields in the new Graduate School, the University takes advantage of its location amidst the rich natural blessings of the Shinshu region to cultivate an institution rooted in local communities but still open to the world, where sophisticated specialists with wide-reaching perspectives and exceptional problem-solving skills can be fostered. This approach is the foundation of our overall education and research activities, and it is the basis for the following unique academic and research endeavors.
