Professor Yasushi Murakami and co-workers proposed new catalysts for use in sol-gel reaction. In collaboration with TOTOKU ELECTRIC CO., LTD., they developed optical fibers that can withstand temperatures as high as 1000 degrees Celsius with the new technology.
