Toray developed a light as well as rigid carbon fiber structural material “carbon fiber reinforced foam (CFRF)”. The modulus is as high as 5 GPa to 12 GPa as a fiber-reinforced resin, and its weight can be reduced 40 % with respect to a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Toray intends to market as a light-weight structural material for aircrafts and automobiles.
