Mitsubishi Rayon developed a thermosetting resin-based tape for auto-molding of CFRP. By processing prepreg into narrow tape before setting, the prepreg can cope with an efficient molding process where a robot arranges prepregs automatically according to the program. Although tape-type prepregs including thermoplastic ones are available on market, Mitsubishi Rayon succeeded in making a molding cycle faster than existing tape-type prepregs by adopting quick-setting type resin developed for the PCM (prepreg compression molding).
