Shinshu University found a wide-applicable process of high-strength cellulose gel formation. Cellulose can be processed and molded in any shape with high strength without chemical treatment. Shinshu University also succeeded in making a hollow membrane fiber to separate water from impurities from the processed cellulosic material, which could be applied in human/nature-friendly water-processing parts without using any oil-based materials. Shinshu University is determined to proceed with the project on the water-treatment process by assembling a module from nanostructure controlled hollow membrane fibers. This high-strength/easy processable cellulosic material is expected to open a new application in pharmaceutical and food processing as well as water treatment.
