【Supercategory:7. DESCENTE SPORTS SCIENCE Subcategory:7.3 Vol.3

It is regretful to realize that we have so little data, or any form of guidance concerning "winter sports for asthmatic children". We have therefore conducted a ski camp for 19 asthmatic children from March 24-28, 1981 in Urasa, Nigata prefecture. During this period, we studied each patient's clinical symptoms together with pulmonary function fluctuations.
Result
 1) Out of 19 patients, 10 patients required some form of treatment (Bronchodilator: Inhalation, or I.V.). However, no patient had severe asthma attack to prohibit their ski exercise.
 2) We observed a slight rise in values of FEV1.0 2 hrs post ski exercise. Making the base of FEV1.0 value as the ones obtained in the morning, we observed that before ski exercise the values marked 12.4% rise, whereas after ski exercise, it marked 13.3% rise.
From these data, We are confident to conclude that ski exercise is one of the preferable sport for asthmatic children.
