PDF Comfortability of a Raincoat in Relation to Dew Condensation

【Supercategory:7. DESCENTE SPORTS SCIENCE Subcategory:7.12 Vol.12

The Comfortability of a raincoat was experimented with a purpose of improving the prevention of dew condensation.
For this purpose, a lining was put over the back of a waterproof cloth to keep the cloth warm.
Five kinds of waterproof clothes, namely, a moisture permeable water proofing cloth manufactured in the U.S.A., manufactured in Japan, and manufactured in China, and two normal waterproof clothes, were used. For the lining combinations of silk, cotton, synthetic fiber and wool jersey were used.
The results of the experiments were as follows :
When a waterproof cloth with good water vapor transmission capacity was used, a lining with good moisture absorptivity and water absorption will rather inhibit water vapor transmission, so that the water content within the cloth will be increased than when no lining was put over the cloth.
In the case of a waterproof cloth without water vapor transmission, however, the water content absorbed into the lining and the water content produced by the prevention of dew formation were almost equal, and accordingly it was effective for the decrease of the water content within the cloth and for the improvement of the touch of the cloth to the skin.
